Avid Rider, Doctor of Osteopathy Discovers Lynx VR Trainer as Cure for Chronic Pain from Indoor Training

LACEY, Wash., Feb. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Dr. Sam Coor – Doctor of Osteopathy, Neurologist and competitive amateur rider – recently spoke with VeloReality CEO Gary Bauer about his pain-free indoor training experience with his Lynx VR Trainer.

A resident of Washington State where frequent rain and snowfall make outdoor training difficult and dangerous, Dr. Coor began training indoors on his favorite bike and a popular fixed rear-wheel trainer model. To keep in shape for demanding tours and climbs like the Thompson Trans-Alps, the PAC Elite tours during which riders routinely cover 150 miles per day, he was training 2 to 3 hours per day 5 times per week.

Over time, Dr. Coor began to experience increasing back, hip and leg pain. In an effort to alleviate his condition, he worked with a coach undertaking two precision bike fits and even going so far as to custom-make a wedge for his left cleat. In spite of his efforts, unrelenting pain forced him to quit riding his fixed rear-wheel trainer.

After doing some research and looking at his problem from a medical expert’s perspective, he discovered the source of his problem. “Once I realized that the pain only happened when riding indoors, never outdoors, even on the same bike, I put things together,” explains Dr. Coor.

“The root cause was restricted lateral movement of my bike’s rear wheel. When riding outdoors it’s natural for the rear wheel to move from side-to-side with each pedal stroke, especially when standing or powering up, allowing the cyclist’s hips and lower back muscles to move freely. Riding inside, on my fixed rear-wheel trainer with no sideways movement, my hips were locked into an unnatural position, causing stress and increasing pain.”

Following a brief on-line hunt for a free rear-wheel trainer, Dr. Coor found, researched and purchased a Lynx VR Trainer with VeloReality ANT+ compatible software and hard drive with a 130 ride library of HD Real Life Videos.

Dr. Coor has now signed up for next summer’s lung-busting Death Ride 2017, and is training hard and pain-free on his Lynx VR for 2 or more hours per day, 4 to 5 times per week. Using the VeloReality climbing rides and on-screen watt meter. Dr. Coor is looking forward to staying in peak condition for this world-famous extreme climbing event.

“I’m so happy because riding is the only sport I truly enjoy,” said Dr. Coor during the recorded telephone conversation. “Physically and visually, I feel just like I’m riding hard indoors and it’s pain-free just like outdoors. And your quality and selection of rides is mind-boggling.”
