VeloReality Lynx Turbo Trainer – Zwift Gear Test Posted on 17th April 2017 by James Gill

The VeloReality Lynx turbo trainer is an indoor cycling system created by a software company. So we had a device produced from a different mindset than the usual turbo. As a result a very different product! The real question though, is how does the Lynx perform on Zwift? Time for a #ZwiftGearTest!

Does this opposite approach mean that the Veloreality Lynx turbo trainer has benefits that other, more mainstream turbo trainers don’t? Undeniably. But it also might be the reason for a few odd decisions that appear to have been made during the design process

Most significantly is the fact that the Veloreality Lynx turbo trainer is actually a WIRED trainer. You need to plug the unit directly into your computer in order to use it. YES, it is possible to use the Lynx over the ANT+ FEC protocol, there are a couple of setup hurdles which need to be cleared before the end users can use the Lynx as an ANT+ system. Personally, I feel the choice of a wired approach is due to VeloReality’s software origin. In that, a direct, wired connection is always going to provide better software performance

At many points, the odd decisions made on the Veloreality Lynx, feel as though they has been done to facilitate the use of the Veloreality software, rather than the unit as a turbo trainer

Avid Rider, Doctor of Osteopathy Discovers Lynx VR Trainer as Cure for Chronic Pain from Indoor Training

LACEY, Wash., Feb. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Dr. Sam Coor – Doctor of Osteopathy, Neurologist and competitive amateur rider – recently spoke with VeloReality CEO Gary Bauer about his pain-free indoor training experience with his Lynx VR Trainer.

A resident of Washington State where frequent rain and snowfall make outdoor training difficult and dangerous, Dr. Coor began training indoors on his favorite bike and a popular fixed rear-wheel trainer model. To keep in shape for demanding tours and climbs like the Thompson Trans-Alps, the PAC Elite tours during which riders routinely cover 150 miles per day, he was training 2 to 3 hours per day 5 times per week.

Over time, Dr. Coor began to experience increasing back, hip and leg pain. In an effort to alleviate his condition, he worked with a coach undertaking two precision bike fits and even going so far as to custom-make a wedge for his left cleat. In spite of his efforts, unrelenting pain forced him to quit riding his fixed rear-wheel trainer.

After doing some research and looking at his problem from a medical expert’s perspective, he discovered the source of his problem. “Once I realized that the pain only happened when riding indoors, never outdoors, even on the same bike, I put things together,” explains Dr. Coor.

“The root cause was restricted lateral movement of my bike’s rear wheel. When riding outdoors it’s natural for the rear wheel to move from side-to-side with each pedal stroke, especially when standing or powering up, allowing the cyclist’s hips and lower back muscles to move freely. Riding inside, on my fixed rear-wheel trainer with no sideways movement, my hips were locked into an unnatural position, causing stress and increasing pain.”

Following a brief on-line hunt for a free rear-wheel trainer, Dr. Coor found, researched and purchased a Lynx VR Trainer with VeloReality ANT+ compatible software and hard drive with a 130 ride library of HD Real Life Videos.

Dr. Coor has now signed up for next summer’s lung-busting Death Ride 2017, and is training hard and pain-free on his Lynx VR for 2 or more hours per day, 4 to 5 times per week. Using the VeloReality climbing rides and on-screen watt meter. Dr. Coor is looking forward to staying in peak condition for this world-famous extreme climbing event.

“I’m so happy because riding is the only sport I truly enjoy,” said Dr. Coor during the recorded telephone conversation. “Physically and visually, I feel just like I’m riding hard indoors and it’s pain-free just like outdoors. And your quality and selection of rides is mind-boggling.”

Ride Reality! Train without pain.

Merry LYNXmas Promo and Record Winter Cold Snap Combine to Heat Up Sales of VeloReality’s LYNX VR Indoor Trainer to Safety Conscious Competitive Riders

VeloReality’s LYNX Trainer — the world’s best ANT+ indoor bike trainer — is selling like hotcakes due to the extreme cold, record snowfalls and special Xmas pricing. To meet demand, the company has tripled manufacturing capacity.

VeloReality VP Marketing Davis Gravelsins today announced a 300% increase in production of the company’s high-end LYNX VR Trainer to meet a jump in demand for the company’s advanced ANT+ indoor Virtual Reality trainer.

Gravelsins attributes the rapid growth in holiday season demand to a combination of extreme weather conditions, coupled with a one-time promotional discount for winter riders who want to stay fit safely, while experiencing the closest thing to riding some of the finest course in Europe and North America.

We anticipated a spike in sales from the USD $2,100 savings offered by our Merry LYNXMAS Event, but nothing like this,” explains Gravelsins. “ Thankfully, we have solid inventory and we are able to meet demand.”

In addition to a $500 cash discount, the Merry LYNXMAS Event package also includes free software and a plug and play 2TB drive with the complete VeloReality library of 145 hyper-realistic, world-famous HD rides.

The LYNX VR consists of a frame with a quick-release fork-mount to hold the rider’s bicycle securely and an anodized aluminum roller assembly that sits under the rear wheel. Driven by an industrial rated 2 HP motor that provides either resistance or acceleration, the roller delivers a perfectly synchronized physical and visual and experience that the rider feels and sees in HD or 4K video as they pedal the VeloReality course they have chosen to conquer. The LYNX / VRide set up also allow cyclists to see and ride with others who are on the same course, in real time.

Advantages over cheaper wind, magnetic, centrifugal and fluid resistance trainers becomes apparent when the pedals are turned:

– Quietest available at 30dB – 40dB: Quieter than the rider’s bike itself.

– Zero tire slip or wear, and no need for special tires or special quick-release.

– Free, as opposed to fixed, rear wheel to allow for natural side-to-side movement while pedaling.

– Most powerful motor available to simulate up to 20% road grade and a full range of gears.

– Smoothest on the market with a 230X /second sampling rate.

“Our customers spend thousands on the best bikes and gear and would rather be fully immersed in reality while they train safely and naturally on the bike they love, rather than be distracted by watching TV or listening to music in a spin class,” explains Gary Bauer, VeloReality CEO. “That’s why went the extra mile on quality, to be the best. Many LYNX riders have worn out or simply abandoned lesser, less expensive indoor trainers before settling on our best-in-class product and spending less over the long haul.”

In support of Bauer’s value per dollar spent assertion, the LYNX VR Trainer is currently under consideration by The Hammacher Schlemmer Institute as being the best indoor trainer in the world.

VeloReality Dons Yellow Jersey as Leader in the Final Stage of the Race for the World’s First 4K Real Life Video Indoor Training Platform

The race for 4K Real Life Videos (RLVs) for indoor ANT+ training is intensifying as the adoption of 4K accelerates. Now VeloReality takes the lead in the race to deliver a complete 4K system with a new downloadable demo. A free teaser for upcoming 4K RLV releases, the demo takes indoor riders outdoors with winding roads through the stunning canyon scenery of the Moab region of southern Utah — famous for landmarks like Arches National Park and rides like the Moab Skinny Tire Events.

Toronto, Canada, July 18, 2016 (Newswire.com) – VeloReality President Gary Bauer today announced the on-line availability of his company’s new 4k Real Life Video demo ride. Specifically shot and formatted for use with the Lynx VR Trainer, the 4k video will also work with leading ANT+ indoor cycle training systems. Already known for their hyper-realistic indoor training experience, the Toronto-based company is betting on 4K to push them further ahead of their RLV competitors.

Bauer describes the new 4K RLV demo as “A teaser of things to come from Velo Reality within a few weeks. One that gives serious indoor riders a taste of our unsurpassed Velo Reality 4K Indoor Training Platform, which will be widely available in the Fall of this year. Going forward we will be offering all of our rides in 4K and HD.”

VeloReakity’s new 4K rides will astound riders with some of the world’s most stunning and curious canyon scenery. Known for the Slickrock Trail – the Mecca of mountain bikers- the Moab area also features hundreds of miles of paved roads with world-class scenery and events like the famous The Skinny Tire. Naturally formed red sandstone spires and arches; giant boulders perched atop slender sandstone columns; cloudless blue skies above open highways that snake through the badlands of the Arches national Park region in southern Utah.

While thrilling indoor riders with some of the world’s most stunning (outdoor) canyon scenery, the demo will also allow riders to make sure the PCs and laptops they use for training are 4K capable and ANT+ ready. They may need a gaming laptop or a PC with a higher end Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) embedded in their computer’s motherboard or present on their video card. Most new PCs have integrated GPU’s, but some of these require upgrading to play 4K video.

“I have a Lynx VR Trainer, I’m a video editor and a serious amateur rider, so I have everything they needed for me to be a VeloReality 4K beta-tester.” Says Gravis Davelson. “And the only word I can use to describe the experience is ‘inspiring.’ Now I am planning to go do the real deal by riding the Skinny Tire event in Moab next March!

The demo is available free at https://velo.labracode.com/product/bicentennial-scenic-byway-95-1 along with free VeloReality software and HD demo rides, as well as the complete library of more than100 HD RLVs for indoor training at its best.

Like all of the RLVs in the ever-expanding collection the new 4K demo will work on the WAHOO KICKR, BKOOL as well as the Lynx VR Trainer, with real-time changes in resistance matched to stunning $k video.

VeloReality RLV demos and VRide software are available free of charge from the company web store atveloreality.com. Once installed, VRide can be configured to run with either demo videos, or with any RLV fromVeloReality’s library of over 100 of the the world’s most popular and visually captivating cycling routes.
