Col des Champs 1, Part 1 of Mercantour Loop Grand Tour

Start with long descent from Col d'Allos with stunning views of surrounding mountains. After reaching village of Colmars the climb starts. Col des Champs is a high mountain pass. Total climb is 12.5 km long at 6.6% average road grade. This is part 1 of Col des Champs climb and is also part 1 of the Mercantour Loop Grand Tour

Col des Champs 2, Part 2 of Mercantour Loop Grand Tour

Continue climbing Col des Champs for another 3.4 km till you reach the top. Take a well deserved rest cycling down to the village of Saint-Martin-d'Entraunes while enjoying the views of the  surrounding mountains and then start the 11km long climb towards Col de la Cayolle. This is Part 2 of Col des Champs climb, the beginning of the Col de la Cayole and is also Part 2 of Mercantour Loop Grand Tour.

Col de la Cayole, Part 3 of Mercantour Loop Grand Tour

Continue climbing for another 9.6 km till you reach the top Col de la Cayole.  Then take a rest during the long descent towards the village of Barcelonette while admiring stunning mountain vistas. This is part 2 of Col de la Cayole climb and is also Part 3 of the Mercantour Loop Grand Tour.

Col d'Allos, Part 4 of Mercantour Loop Grand Tour

Part of many Tour de France events, in fact one of its most popular cols, Col d'Allos is 17.5km long climb at an average road grade of 6.6%.  This little sinuous road climbs along the side a cliff high above a steep canyon and then hairpins over the mountain towards the Mediterranean 100km away.  Part 4 of the Mercantour Loop Grand Tour.

This Mercantour Loop Grand Tour  starts at Col d’Allos to Colmars, then climbs Col des Champs, down to Saint-Martin-d’Entraunes and then climbs towards Col de la Cayolle and a long descent towards Barcelonette. Close with a 17.5km long climb of Col d’Allos to your starting point.
